CarePump accessories and sizing guide: which cuffs fit my unit?

CarePump units are sold without cuffs. This guide explains which cuffs, extension zippers and splitters fit each unit, and how to choose them.

CarePump units are sold as a main unit with its power supply, without cuffs. You choose the cuffs for the part of the body being treated, which is usually advised by your physiotherapist or lymphoedema therapist. This guide explains what fits what.

The golden rule: match the chamber count

Cuffs, extension zippers and splitters are made in 4, 6 and 8-chamber versions. Always choose accessories with the same number of chambers as your unit.

4-chamber cuffs are grey, and 6 and 8-chamber cuffs are black. Each cuff comes with the air tube and plug it needs. The leg cuff pair, short pants, full pants and double arm cuff also include a double splitter with a 150 cm tube extension.

Sizing and extension zippers

CarePump cuffs are a universal size. Once inflated, they adapt to the shape of the body, and each cuff has a zip along its full length. If a cuff is too narrow for a larger limb or body, an extension zipper widens it:

Leg cuff extension zipper (4, 6 and 8-chamber): one zipper for one leg cuff.
Short pants extension zippers (4, 6 and 8-chamber): pack of 2.
Full pants extension zippers (6 and 8-chamber): pack of 2. Full pants already include 2 extension zippers.
Double arm cuff extension zippers (6 and 8-chamber): pack of 2. The double arm cuff already includes 2 extenders.

If you are unsure whether you need an extension zipper, measure the widest part of the limb and contact OMED before ordering.

Using two cuffs at once

Most CarePump units have one air outlet. To treat both legs or both arms at the same time, you need a double splitter, which connects two cuffs to the unit. There are two versions for each chamber count:

Double splitter: connects two cuffs directly.
Double splitter / tubes extension (150 cm): connects two cuffs and adds 1.5 m of extra reach between the unit and the cuffs.

The leg cuff pair, short pants, full pants and double arm cuff already include the long splitter, so you do not need to buy one separately for those. The CarePump Expert8 DUO has two independent channels, so it can run two separate cuffs with different settings.

Which cuff should I choose?

It depends on where the swelling or tiredness is and what your therapist recommends. As a general guide:

Swelling or heavy legs below the hips: leg cuffs, or the leg cuff pair for both legs.
Swelling that extends into the hips, bottom or abdomen: short pants or full pants.
Arm swelling, for example after breast cancer treatment: an arm cuff, or an arm, shoulder and chest cuff if the swelling extends to the chest wall. Only use pressotherapy after cancer treatment if your oncology team has approved it.
Waist and abdomen: waist cuff.
